People looking to reconnect and regroup after months of working in isolation should head outdoors according to Wild Classroom.
Wild Classroom encourages children and adults alike to use the traditional outdoor technique of cooking with fire to bring groups together over great food and shared experiences. Whether cooking up a corn-beef hash, cottage pie, chilli beef or pancakes, people can bond and engage while learning new cooking skills in nature.
Starting the business two years ago, Founder Scott Ryan believes that after the country has faced such unprecedented times, businesses, groups and classes should be looking to pause and re-focus as they consider the way forward out of the crisis and the new normal.
He said: “In my role as a teacher for the last twenty years, it has always been clear to me that taking control and ownership of a situation is just as essential as skills-focussed learning. I feel that after the challenges of the past eighteen months, there will need to be a real focus on social and emotional wellbeing as groups come together again after so long apart.
“There can be no doubt in my opinion that being outside and being able to connect with nature has massive benefits for our own personal wellbeing. Wild Classroom allows groups to focus on team-building after such a difficult time, while most importantly having fun cooking tasty dishes together. ”
Wild Classroom is incredibly lucky to collaborate with three outstanding venues in the Swale area Belmont House, Brogdale National Fruit Collection and Mount Ephraim House and Gardens. With the outdoors being seen as a safer option in the current circumstances, as well as providing nourishment for the soul, there is no shortage of space for Scott to run his sessions at any of these settings, often taking advantage of the food that is available there during his workshops.
Scott sees Wild Classroom as an all-year-round and all-weather business, finding just as much enjoyment from running sessions in deep midwinter as he does in summer, and is currently busy planning an exciting programme for the shorter days ahead. Meanwhile, in the coming months Scott can be found at Belmont House where he is running courses for both adults and families, where following a tour of the kitchen garden visitors will learn how to cook a range of dishes using freshly picked ingredients over fire.

Scott would welcome any business, group or school class considering the best way to structure a return to some form of normality to get in touch. He said: “Wild Classroom and our partners provide a fun, engaging and educational outdoor experience for all ages. After the past 18 months a return to simplicity and getting back to nature is exactly what we all need right now.”
