It could be argued that the fitness and gym industry has been developing since the 1950's as the increase of labour saving devices have generally decreased our daily routine activities as well as increasing our leisure time. Fitness can be split into Aerobic - the ability of the body to process oxygen to move the body and Anaerobic - the ability of the body to undertake strength, power, speed or endurance activities.
The use of purpose built Fitness and Gym facilities is now common across the world to provide both a safe place and qualified staff that can help develop an activity programme for the individual. Group sessions are often provided and based of the numerous techniques that have been developed to support and motivate participants to improve their fitness.
Generally the facilities are indoor and will be provided by corporate bodies, local business, charities and Local Authorities, a recent development is the provision of Outdoor Gym's in open public spaces.
Outdoor Gyms are generally made up of specialised equipment that would be found in indoor gyms to help exercise and train specific muscles. The don't have weights attached and are designed to enable all to try without instructors.
Many organisations or community groups have provided various Outdoor Gym equipment, that is generally free to use and in a public spaces. The equipment will vary but provide users with the opportunity to exercise on their own or within sessions overseen by experienced and qualified instructors.
Always check with your doctor you are ok to be using the equipment if you have any medical condition or injury.
