Close to the town centre, there were once four water-powered incorporating mills here.   The surviving mill is the oldest of its kind in the world. The Home Works, of which it formed part, laid the foundations for Britain's greatness. The factory made powder for Nelson at Trafalgar and Wellington at Waterloo. In peacetime its product blasted routes for the nation's railways and canals, making the Industrial Revolution possible.

Restored in the 1960's and managed by the Faversham Society. Free entry to Chart Gunpowder Mills-donations welcome.
