Barton's Point Coastal Park features 40 acres of outstanding natural beauty, a salt-water lake and a section of the Sheppey Cycle Route, and is the perfect location for camping, bird watching, fishing, geo-caching, flying a kite, water sports, picnics or dining out in the Boathouse Cafe.

With a 9 hole Pitch and Putt Course, Adventure Playground, Miniature Steam Railway, Barton's Point Coastal Park is fun for all the family!

Barton's Point Coastal Park also features a scheduled monument the 'Queenborough Lines' (fortified lines). Royal Commission fortifications protecting Sheerness dockyard from land attack, built 1863-1868 with additional defences and air-raid shelters constructed during World War II. You can find out more about this historic feature on the Historic England website.

In 2021 a new footbridge (banner image) was installed across Queenborough Lines to enable swans to swim underneath and residents and visitors to enjoy the walking and cycling paths in the park

The Boathouse Cafe

The Boathouse Cafe is a rustic, cosy, atmospheric and family friendly eatery, situated by the side of the lake with outstanding views, especially at sunset! We are open 7 days a week between February and October (only opening for the Weekend during January) and pride ourselves in serving a range of home-cooked food such as Sandwiches, Baguettes and Panini; English Breakfasts; Soups and Stews; Jacket Potatoes with a selection of hot fillings; homemade Steamed Steak Puddings; Sunday Roast Dinners; and a variety of homemade Cakes and Desserts.

All food is made to order using only the finest fresh ingredients, and we aim to purchase seasonal and locally sourced produce where possible. We also strive to maintain a ‘Healthy Eating’ menu, as well as  catering for those who are Vegetarian/Gluten Intolerant – with competitive prices suitable for all budgets. We are available for private functions and offer bespoke menus designed with your needs in mind.

The cafe is open Monday to Saturday 10:00 to 17:00 and Sunday 09:00 to 17:00. Summer peak season it is open 09:00 - 18:00 seven days a week.

Activities at Barton's Point Coastal Park

Our large Salt-Water Lake is the home to a variety of marine life, including Crabs,  and provides hours of entertainment for families who enjoy the simple pleasures of ‘Crabbing’, or feeding the Ducks and Swans. Swan food and Crabbing equipment can be purchased in the Boathouse Cafe, along with bags of bait for a small fee. However we do ask that Crab Lines are not left unattended, so to prevent any risk occurring to the Swans who could get caught up in the line.

The lake is also the perfect location to learn or gain experience in sailing, windsurfing, kayaking or paddle boarding, with many visitors taking the opportunity to bring their own equipment to practice in a safe environment before venturing out to sea. Launching fees are £5.00 per vessel per day and are to be paid in the Boathouse Cafe upon your arrival. Please contact us prior to your visit to check for availability. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate motorised vessels.

Between April and September (weather permitting) Barton’s Point Coastal Park can also offer Sail Boat Rides, Kayak, Paddle Board and Pedalo hire. Please contact us for details on prices and availability.

Camping at Barton's Point Coastal Park

With Minster Beach only a  few minutes walk away and large, open spaces to play Football, fly a Kite, play in the Adventure Playground, or simply lay back and read a book, Barton’s Point Coastal Park could be the camp site for you.

Camping is available at Barton’s Point Coastal Park from April (weather/land conditions permitting) through to September for tents, touring caravans or motor-homes, at the cost of £15.00 per pitch for a maximum of 6 people.

Our facilities comprise of Toilets and fresh Drinking Water.

We are a ‘dog friendly’ camp site providing all dogs are kept on leads in the camping area and most importantly, that all dog waste is picked up and discarded in the bins provided.

All BBQs and camp fires should be kept at a safe distance from tents and kept off ground level to prevent scorching of the grass (i.e. in fire-pits or BBQs with legs).

We do not have Electric Hook Up.

To contact us, please call 07909 994196, or email info@bartonspointcoastalpark.co.uk.
